Introduction Google Messages

End to End Encryption Comes to Cross Platform RCS
Security is another major focus for Google Messages. In May 2026, Google and Apple began rolling out end to end encrypted RCS messaging between Android and iPhone users.
When encryption is available, Google Messages displays a lock icon in the conversation. Google says the encrypted messages cannot be read while they travel between devices.
Google Keep Arrives Inside Chats
Google Messages is also becoming more useful for planning and collaboration. Google has started rolling out Google Keep integration, allowing users to create and edit shared notes directly inside conversations.

Real Time Location Sharing
Google Messages allows users to share their live location seamlessly within chat threads. Users can choose different sharing periods, including one hour, the current day, a custom duration or until they manually stop sharing.
The feature can help people coordinate meetings, trips and other plans.
More Features Are Rolling Out
Google Messages is also testing and rolling out additional interface changes. Recent reports point to customizable attachment layouts, updated long press controls, read receipt redesigns and changes to Messages for Web pairing.
Google has also started testing an official RCS for Business chat that can introduce users to new Google Messages features. These changes may not appear for everyone at the same time.
