Introduction Meta VR Glasses

Meta has officially introduced the Meta VR Glasses, moving away from traditional bulky headsets to an ultra-lightweight form factor. Unveiled at Meta Connect, these glasses shift the heavy computing components off your face into a separate wired puck, managing to weigh only 100 grams while using a premium magnesium alloy frame.

Core Specifications and Hardware Architecture

Unlike traditional standalone headsets like the Meta Quest 3, the Meta VR Glasses split their hardware to achieve a comfortable, wear-all-day design:

The Glasses (On-Face): You only wear the display optics and sensors. It features what Meta calls a 5K MicroOLED "Infinite Display" pushing 2412 x 2288 pixels per eye, offering a sharp 37 pixels per degree (PPD) and up to a 120Hz refresh rate. Two front-facing cameras handle full-color passthrough.

The Compute Puck (External): Connected via a lightweight wire, this separate unit houses the core "guts". It is powered by a Snapdragon Reality Elite processor, 12GB of RAM, and 128GB of storage.

Battery Life: The internal battery in the puck supports up to three hours of continuous media playback, and the glasses can still be operated while the puck is plugged in and charging.

Sizing: The glasses are available in small and large size options to suit different face widths at no price variance.

Control and Interaction Interface

In a major shift for virtual reality interfaces, the Meta VR Glasses are primarily designed to be operated without traditional handheld controllers.

Controller-Free Navigation: Over 75 launch titles are optimized to be played entirely using just your hands.

Meta Neural Band: The glasses integrate with an optional neural interface wristband. This band reads subtle muscle or nerve movements, allowing you to control menus by swiping your fingers on an "imaginary D-pad" or typing on a high-speed virtual keyboard.

Productivity, Entertainment, and Holograms

The device bridges the gap between media consumption, immersive productivity, and casual gaming:

Software Ecosystem: The device launches with access to infinite, freeform desktop screens for work, streaming apps for live sports and movies, and cloud-based gaming via Xbox Cloud Gaming.

Full-Body Holograms: Meta is rolling out support for full-body holographic projections, making virtual meetings and remote collaboration feel physically present.

Launch Details, Price and Availability

The newly announced Meta VR Glasses will retail for $1,299 USD (approximately ₹1,08,500 INR) and are scheduled to officially ship in Spring 2027.

Meta officially pulled back the curtain on the hardware at Meta Connect 2026, revealing a phased rollout plan as they prepare for full market entry.

Pricing Structure and Storage Configurations

Base Pricing: The glasses start at $1,299.99 USD. This baseline configuration provides the lightweight headset framework alongside the required external compute puck.

Storage Tiers: The core configuration includes 128GB of built-in storage. Unlike prior standalone Quest headsets, Meta has integrated an expandable storage option via a microSD card slot (supporting up to 1TB) directly inside the compute puck, allowing users to upgrade capacity later without buying a pricier tier.

Controller Inclusions: To hit the lower form factor and maintain controller-free navigation, the device ships without traditional handheld controllers. However, the glasses remain fully compatible with existing Meta Quest Touch Plus Controllers if you choose to pair them separately.

Release Timeline and Pre-Order Availability

Release Window: The target consumer launch is locked in for Spring 2027. Internal timelines target the first half of the year, giving developers time to build applications utilizing the new hand-tracking framework.

Pre-Orders: Full retail pre-orders are not yet live. However, consumers can register their interest and request future purchasing notifications directly on the official Meta VR Glasses Hub.

Geographic Market Launch Plan

Meta intends to deploy the glasses internationally on day one rather than executing a restricted single-country pilot:

Global Footprint: The device is confirmed to launch across 25 countries in its initial wave.

Regional Markets: While the primary focus rests on the US, UK, and major European retail branches, Meta's broader hardware expansion strategy at Connect outlines upcoming expansion timelines for secondary territories like Mexico, South Korea, the UAE, and Brazil.
