Toyota has officially launched the new Urban Cruiser Ebella in India, marking a major step in the company's electric vehicle journey. Introduced on May 29, 2026, the Urban Cruiser Ebella is Toyota's first mass market battery electric SUV for the Indian market.
The new electric SUV is developed on a shared platform with the Maruti Suzuki e Vitara, but Toyota has given the vehicle its own styling, features, and ownership benefits. With a claimed driving range of up to 543 km, advanced technology, and flexible ownership options, the Urban Cruiser Ebella aims to attract a wide range of electric vehicle buyers.
Introductory Pricing and Battery Subscription Option
Toyota has introduced the Urban Cruiser Ebella with an attractive pricing strategy. The top end E3 variant is available at an introductory ex showroom price of ₹23.60 lakh.
To make electric vehicle ownership more accessible, Toyota is also offering a Battery as a Service model. Under this program, buyers can purchase the vehicle at a significantly lower upfront cost of ₹15.25 lakh. Instead of owning the battery outright, customers pay a battery usage fee of ₹4.99 per kilometer.
The company has also announced the E1 and E2 variants. However, their individual prices have not yet been revealed.
Two Battery Options Deliver Strong Performance
The Urban Cruiser Ebella is built on the new HEARTECT e platform developed for electric mobility. Toyota offers the SUV with two Lithium Iron Phosphate battery packs.
The higher E2 and E3 variants use a 61 kWh battery pack paired with a front mounted electric motor. This setup produces 171 BHP and 193 Nm of torque. Toyota claims an ARAI certified driving range of 543 km on a full charge, making it suitable for both city commuting and longer journeys.
The entry level E1 variant comes with a smaller 49 kWh battery. It delivers 144 BHP and 189 Nm of torque while offering a claimed range of 440 km. This version is expected to appeal to buyers looking for a more affordable electric SUV without sacrificing everyday usability.
Fast Charging Adds Everyday Convenience
Charging convenience remains one of the most important factors for electric vehicle buyers. Toyota has addressed this by equipping the Urban Cruiser Ebella with DC fast charging capability.
The SUV can charge from 10 percent to 80 percent battery capacity in approximately 45 minutes under supported fast charging conditions. This significantly reduces waiting times and makes long distance travel more practical.
