GTA 6’s Extended Look has sparked frame rate debates, with 30 FPS expected on PS5 and higher performance potentially possible on PS5 Pro.
Key Highlights
- 30 FPS likely on PS5.
- PS5 Pro could improve performance.
- 40 FPS mode remains possible.
- 60 FPS remains unconfirmed.
Rockstar Games has finally given fans a much closer look at GTA 6 with its latest Extended Look gameplay. The 26 minute presentation was captured on PlayStation 5 and offers the clearest view yet of how the highly anticipated game could perform on current generation consoles.
However, Rockstar has not confirmed the final frame rate for either the standard PS5 or PS5 Pro. This means current performance discussions are based on the footage, community reactions and technical speculation.
GTA 6 Could Target 30 FPS on PS5
Based on the Extended Look, GTA 6 appears likely to target 30 FPS on the standard PS5. The massive world of Leonida could make higher frame rates difficult to achieve while maintaining its visual quality.
Rockstar is building a world filled with heavy traffic, detailed NPCs, complex animations, physics and many interactive systems. All of these elements can place significant pressure on console hardware.
Technical discussions around GTA 6 have also previously suggested that 30 FPS could be the safer target. The footage does not include a reliable frame rate counter, so the exact performance cannot be confirmed.
Some Scenes Appear Less Smooth
Several viewers noticed what they believed were moments running somewhere around the 25 to 30 FPS range. One viewer praised the presentation but felt that a passing aircraft looked extremely unstable, even suggesting it appeared close to 10 FPS.
Another reaction was much more critical, with a viewer calling the apparent 30 FPS presentation disappointing compared with modern games.
Some fans also compared GTA 6 with GTA 5 featuring graphical improvements. They felt that waiting more than a decade for the sequel should have resulted in greater technical innovation.
These reactions represent community opinions, not confirmed measurements from Rockstar.
Could PS5 Pro Offer 40 FPS?
The PS5 Pro could potentially provide additional performance options. A 40 FPS mode is one possibility that has attracted attention from the community.
With VRR support and suitable display hardware, the PS5 Pro could potentially deliver a smoother experience while retaining demanding graphical settings. However, Rockstar has not confirmed that such a mode will exist.
Some viewers have also speculated that the Extended Look may have been captured using a PS5 Pro. No verified proof exists at this time to support that assertion.
What About 60 FPS on PS5 Pro?
A 60 FPS mode remains possible, but there is no official confirmation. The PS5 Pro has more powerful hardware than the standard PS5, which makes higher performance targets technically more plausible.
Still, GTA 6 is expected to push console hardware heavily. Rockstar may choose visual quality, world density and stability over a higher frame rate.
The PS5 Pro could therefore become important if Rockstar introduces different performance options at launch.

Rockstar Still Has the Final Answer
For now, 30 FPS remains the most realistic expectation for GTA 6 on the standard PS5. A 40 FPS option on PS5 Pro is possible, while 60 FPS cannot be completely ruled out.
The Extended Look has created plenty of discussion, but it cannot confirm the final performance target. Until Rockstar officially reveals the console modes, PS5 Pro performance remains speculation.
The final game could still deliver different settings from what fans have seen in the promotional footage. For now, players will have to wait for Rockstar to reveal exactly how GTA 6 will perform across PS5 and PS5 Pro.
