Basketball gaming fans across the United States are counting down the days until the release of NBA The Run, a new arcade style basketball game that combines NBA superstars, streetball culture, and fast paced online action. The game is scheduled to launch on June 9, 2026, and many players already see it as one of the most exciting sports game releases of the year.

Developed by Play By Play Studios in partnership with the NBA, NBA The Run takes inspiration from legendary basketball titles like NBA Street and NBA Jam. Instead of focusing on traditional five on five simulation gameplay, the new title delivers intense three on three matches on famous street courts from around the world. Recent reports and gameplay previews have created strong buzz among both basketball fans and gamers.

NBA The Run Focuses on Fast and Competitive Street Basketball

NBA The Run is built around quick online knockout tournaments where players compete in high energy three on three games. Every match is designed to feel fast, aggressive, and exciting with powerful dunks, long range shots, ankle breaking dribble moves, steals, and highlight plays that can change the momentum of a game in seconds.

One of the game's biggest features is its knockout tournament format. Players must continue winning matches to stay alive and advance through multiple rounds. The game also introduces special player abilities that activate during important moments, giving each NBA star a unique identity on the court. Developers say the gameplay is designed to reward skill while keeping matches fun and accessible for casual players.

Star Studded Roster and Global Street Courts

The launch version of NBA The Run will feature 32 NBA players along with several streetball legends. Some of the biggest names confirmed for the roster include LeBron James, Stephen Curry, Luka Dončić, Giannis Antetokounmpo, Shai Gilgeous Alexander, Victor Wembanyama, and Jalen Brunson.

The game will also include special rookie versions of selected stars, allowing players to use younger versions of fan favorite athletes. This feature has generated significant excitement among longtime NBA followers.

Beyond the player roster, NBA The Run will launch with 11 street courts inspired by locations around the world. Courts based on cities such as New York, Chicago, Toronto, Beijing, Venice Beach, and the Philippines aim to capture the atmosphere of real street basketball culture. Instead of traditional NBA arenas, the game focuses on outdoor courts and community basketball environments that have influenced generations of players.

Open Beta Creates Strong Early Buzz Ahead of Release

Interest in NBA The Run increased even further after the announcement of a cross platform open beta. The beta allows players on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X and Series S, and PC to experience the game before launch. Early gameplay footage and player reactions have highlighted the game's arcade style action, responsive controls, and competitive online modes.

The Standard Edition is expected to launch at $29.99, while the Deluxe Edition will be available for $39.99. Reports also suggest that the game will avoid traditional loot box systems at launch, instead allowing players to unlock cosmetic content through gameplay progression.

Many early previews describe NBA The Run as the closest modern successor to NBA Street in years. With cross play support, global streetball locations, NBA superstars, and a focus on fun competitive gameplay, the title is quickly becoming one of the most anticipated basketball games of summer 2026. As the June 9 release date approaches, fans will soon find out whether NBA The Run can deliver the arcade basketball comeback many players have been waiting for.
