PSSR is the Major 2026 Upgrade
One of the biggest developments this year is Sony's upgraded PSSR technology. The newer version is designed to improve image clarity and stability while maintaining high frame rates. Sony says supported games can use PSSR alongside advanced ray tracing and high-frame-rate modes.
Sony's current PS5 Pro page lists enhanced PSSR support for games including Resident Evil Requiem, Silent Hill f, Silent Hill 2, Final Fantasy VII Rebirth, Alan Wake 2, Control, Monster Hunter Wilds, Dragon's Dogma 2, Crimson Desert, Assassin's Creed Shadows and Cyberpunk 2077.
PS5 Pro Storage and Disc Situation
The console includes a 2TB SSD, giving it substantially more built-in storage than the original PS5 models. It is an all-digital console, however, so there is no built-in disc drive. Sony offers the compatible disc drive as a separate purchase.
PS5 Pro Enhanced Games
Sony currently says more than 100 PS5 titles have been enhanced for PS5 Pro. Depending on the game, enhancements can include higher or more stable frame rates, improved ray tracing, sharper image quality and other graphical improvements.
The console can also play over 8,500 PS4 games, with Game Boost providing improvements in selected compatible titles.
New Games Using PS5 Pro
PS5 Pro continues to feature prominently in upcoming games. For example, Metro 2039 is scheduled for February 4, 2027, and its first console gameplay footage was captured on PS5 Pro, showing 60fps gameplay.
PS5 Pro Availability
Availability is currently an important consideration. Sony's U.S. direct store page currently shows the 2TB PS5 Pro as out of stock, although availability can vary by retailer and region.
There have also been reports of PS5 Pro stock shortages in Japan, with Sony reportedly introducing a purchase lottery for some customers. That report should be treated separately from Sony's standard global retail policy.

PS5 Pro in India
For India, the situation has been less straightforward than the U.S., UK and Japanese markets. Reports earlier in 2026 indicated that a PS5 Pro model appeared in India's BIS certification database, raising expectations around official availability.
