 BMW has unveiled the all-new 2027 X5 G65 with a fresh design, electric iX5, hybrid options, advanced technology and a wider range of powertrains.

BMW has officially introduced the 2027 BMW X5 G65, marking the fifth generation of one of its most successful luxury SUVs. The new X5 arrives with a completely redesigned exterior, an upgraded cabin, advanced digital technology and the widest range of powertrain options ever offered on a BMW production vehicle. It is also the first X5 to include a fully electric version, called the BMW iX5. 


The new X5 will be built at BMW's Spartanburg plant in South Carolina, USA, with production beginning in August 2026. Customer deliveries are expected to start in October 2026 across selected global markets. 


New Exterior Inspired by Neue Klasse


The G65 generation adopts BMW's latest Neue Klasse design language while keeping the familiar X5 proportions. The front end now features slimmer LED headlights with an illuminated X-shaped daytime running light signature, a redesigned kidney grille and smoother body surfaces that improve aerodynamic efficiency.


Other exterior updates include flush-mounted door handles integrated into the body, full-width LED rear lighting, newly designed alloy wheels up to 23 inches and optional automatic power-opening doors. These changes give the SUV a cleaner and more modern appearance than its predecessor.

A large 17.9-inch central touchscreen works alongside BMW Panoramic iDrive, while an optional 14.6-inch passenger display is available for the first time on an X5. The SUV also introduces BMW Operating System X with an AI-powered voice assistant capable of handling more natural conversations and vehicle controls.

  • Heated, ventilated and massage front seats.
  • Crystal-effect interior controls.
  • Panoramic glass roof.
  • Bowers and Wilkins Dolby Atmos audio system..

BMW has also increased rear passenger space and cargo capacity by extending the wheelbase compared with the outgoing generation. 


Five Powertrain Options


One of the biggest highlights of the new X5 is its diverse powertrain lineup.


Buyers can choose from:


3.0-litre turbocharged petrol mild-hybrid.

Diesel mild-hybrid (selected markets).

X5 50e plug-in hybrid.

Fully electric BMW iX5 60 xDrive.

Hydrogen-powered BMW iX5 Hydrogen arriving in 2028.


This makes the G65 the first BMW production model to launch with five different propulsion technologies. 


BMW iX5 Electric


The all-electric iX5 represents a major step in BMW's EV strategy.

Dual-motor all-wheel drive.

578 hp.

144 kWh battery (US specification).

Up to 435 miles (700 km) estimated range.

800-volt electrical architecture.

DC fast charging up to 460 kW.


Around 170 miles of driving range added in approximately 10 minutes under ideal charging conditions. 


Better Ride and Driving Dynamics


BMW has equipped every X5 with electronically controlled adaptive suspension as standard.


Higher trims can also be fitted with Adaptive Chassis Control Professional, which includes:


Two-axle air suspension.

Integral Active Steering.

Active roll stabilisation.


The SUV also debuts BMW's new "Heart of Joy" control system, which manages steering, braking, power delivery and energy recuperation more quickly than previous generations, improving both comfort and handling.

Advanced Driver Assistance


The 2027 X5 introduces BMW's latest SAE Level 2 driver assistance technologies.

Automated emergency braking.

Price and Availability


The new BMW X5 G65 starts at approximately US$71,250, while the fully electric iX5 60 xDrive starts from around US$81,250 before destination charges. Prices will vary depending on the market and selected trim.


Production begins in August 2026, with the first customer deliveries expected from October 2026. Additional performance models, including a V8-powered variant and the hydrogen-powered iX5 Hydrogen, will follow later.
