Slate Truck Overview

The Slate Truck developed by Slate Auto, the all-electric pickup is designed to be simple, practical, and much more affordable than most electric trucks currently available.

Backed by investors that include Jeff Bezos, Slate Auto is taking a different approach. Instead of filling the truck with expensive technology, the company has focused on keeping costs low while giving buyers the freedom to customize their vehicle over time.

With customer deliveries expected to begin in late 2026, the Slate Truck has already become one of the most talked-about electric vehicles in the industry.

Slate Truck Price and Latest Launch Update

Slate Auto has officially confirmed pricing for its first electric pickup truck. The standard Blank Slate pickup starts at US$24,950, excluding taxes and destination charges. Buyers looking for a sport utility version can choose the SUV model, which starts at US$29,950.

Although the company originally hoped to launch a truck priced below US$20,000, changes to the United States federal EV tax credit made that target impossible. Even so, the Slate Truck remains one of the most affordable electric vehicles announced for the American market.

Customer deliveries are expected to begin during the fourth quarter of 2026, and public interest has been strong. According to the company, more than 180,000 reservations have already been placed.

Battery, Driving Range and Performance

The Slate Truck is built for everyday driving rather than high-performance racing. It uses a single rear-mounted electric motor that produces 201 horsepower, sending power to the rear wheels.

Customers will have two battery options. The standard battery offers 52.7 kWh, while a larger 84.3 kWh pack is available for drivers who want more range. The maximum estimated driving range is up to 240 miles (around 386 kilometres) on a full charge.

The truck also supports DC fast charging, allowing the battery to charge from 20 percent to 80 percent in around 30 minutes under suitable charging conditions. It has a top speed of approximately 90 mph (145 km/h), making it suitable for both city driving and highway travel.

Towing and Payload Capacity

While the Slate Truck is positioned as an affordable electric pickup, it still offers useful utility features. The vehicle can carry a payload of around 1,550 pounds (703 kg) and tow up to 2,000 pounds (907 kg).

These figures make it practical for everyday work, weekend projects, outdoor adventures, and light commercial use without adding unnecessary complexity.

A Minimalist Interior That Keeps Costs Low

One of the biggest differences between the Slate Truck and most modern electric vehicles is its interior. Rather than offering large touchscreens and luxury features as standard, Slate Auto has focused on simplicity.

The cabin includes manual crank windows, physical climate controls, and a small digital driver display. Instead of a built-in infotainment screen, drivers use a smartphone mount for navigation, music, and apps. There is also no factory-installed stereo system in the standard model.

The truck features a two-seat cabin, giving it a practical layout while helping reduce manufacturing costs.

More Than 200 Accessories for Personal Customisation

Slate Auto calls its base model the "Blank Slate" because owners can personalise it however they choose.

The company plans to offer more than 200 accessories, allowing customers to upgrade their vehicle over time instead of paying for every feature on day one. Buyers will be able to choose from roof racks, larger wheels, upgraded stereo systems, seat covers, utility accessories, vinyl body wraps, and many other add-ons.

One of the most interesting options is an SUV conversion kit, which can transform the pickup into a sport utility vehicle with additional rear seating. Many of these accessories are designed for simple DIY installation, making personalisation easier and more affordable.

Production Plans and Delivery Timeline

Slate Auto will manufacture the truck at its production facility in Warsaw, Indiana, USA.

Production is scheduled to begin in late 2026, with customer deliveries planned for the fourth quarter of the year.

Customers can reserve the Slate Truck with a US$50 reservation deposit, while eligible reservation holders will later be asked to complete a US$300 pre-order confirmation before finalising their purchase.

Will the Slate Truck Launch in India?

At the moment, Slate Auto has not officially announced plans to launch the Slate Truck in India or other international markets.

However, reports indicate that the company has filed a design patent in India. While this suggests that Slate Auto is protecting its vehicle design for possible future expansion, a patent filing alone does not confirm that the truck will be sold in the country.

For now, the company remains focused on the United States market.

Competitors and Why the Slate Truck Stands Out

The Slate Truck will compete with several affordable vehicles, including the Ford Maverick, Rivian R2, and Chevrolet Bolt EV.

Unlike many competitors that focus on premium technology and luxury interiors, Slate Auto is offering a different value proposition. Its biggest strength is affordability, combined with a highly customizable design that lets buyers decide which features they actually want.

This simple approach could appeal to first-time electric vehicle buyers, small business owners, and customers looking for a practical pickup without paying for expensive extras they may never use.
