Dragon Ball Xenoverse 3 is officially announced for 2027, bringing a new futuristic timeline, original characters, and upgraded visuals to PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC.

Dragon Ball Xenoverse 3 gameplay preview showing new character and futuristic West City setting

Bandai Namco Entertainment has officially revealed Dragon Ball Xenoverse 3 during the Dragon Ball Games Battle Hour 2026. The game, earlier known as “Project Age 1000,” is set to arrive in 2027 for PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC via Steam. This marks the next chapter in a series that has remained active for nearly a decade.

A New Timeline Set in Age 1000

The upcoming title shifts the story far ahead into Age 1000, around 200 years after the events of Dragon Ball Z. The setting focuses on a futuristic West City, introducing a new era with fresh conflicts and characters. Early previews also highlight the presence of the Great Saiyan Squad, suggesting a storyline that blends legacy elements with new ideas.

Akira Toriyama’s Creative Influence

One of the most important aspects of the project is the involvement of Akira Toriyama. Before his passing, Toriyama contributed to character design and world-building. The development team confirmed that a completely new original character, created by Toriyama, will play a key role in the story.

The game has reportedly been in development for six to seven years, indicating a long-term effort to reshape the series for modern hardware.

New Characters and Player Customisation

Early footage introduced a redesigned player avatar, including a female version of the customizable hero. A new character named Brett has also been revealed, with hints that he could be connected to Goku’s legacy.

Customisation remains central to the experience. Players will again create their own fighter, with deeper visual detail for transformations and signature moves. This approach continues the identity of the Xenoverse series while expanding its scope.

Visual Upgrade and Gameplay Structure

Developer Dimps has rebuilt the visual pipeline to move closer to an “anime come to life” style. This change aims to replace the earlier plastic-like character models with more expressive and dynamic visuals.

In terms of gameplay, Xenoverse 3 keeps its core structure. Players can expect a hub-based system with online co-op missions, raids, and a single-player story mode. The game will also draw ideas from past spin-offs like Dragon Ball Online and Dragon Ball Heroes, possibly connecting more closely to the broader Dragon Ball timeline.

A Long-Running Series Moves Forward

The Xenoverse franchise began with its first release in 2015 and gained strong support with Dragon Ball Xenoverse 2, which continued receiving updates across multiple platforms, including newer consoles in 2024.

With Xenoverse 3, the series is moving fully into the next-generation space. There are no announced plans for older consoles like PlayStation 4 or Xbox One. This decision reflects a focus on improved performance and more advanced visuals.

What to Expect Next?

While the announcement confirms a 2027 release window, more gameplay details are expected in the coming months. With a new timeline, updated visuals, and strong creative backing, Dragon Ball Xenoverse 3 is shaping up as a major step forward for the franchise.
