Sony officially confirms the Bloodborne movie is in development. Shifting to an R-rated animated format, the film promises a gritty, faithful adaptation of the iconic Yharnam nightmare.
Sony recently confirmed at CinemaCon 2026 that a Bloodborne movie is in active development. After years of speculation regarding a potential live-action adaptation, Sony Pictures clarified that the project is moving forward as an animated feature. This brings the 2015 PlayStation action-RPG to the big screen.
Design and Visual Style
The studio opted for an animated format to bypass the physical limitations of live-action filmmaking and practical effects.
Format: The movie is a fully animated, R-rated feature film.
Aesthetics: The art direction will heavily mirror the gothic, Victorian-inspired architecture of the fictional city of Yharnam. Animation gives the production team the necessary tools to replicate the game's body horror and complex monster designs accurately.
Tone: Sony executives stated the film will remain true to the bleak, mature, and violent themes of the original FromSoftware title.
Features and Technical Specifications
The narrative centers on the core premise of the game: a hunter navigating a cursed city suffering from a blood-borne plague that turns its residents into beasts.

Production Team: The movie is a joint effort between Sony Pictures, PlayStation Productions, and Lyrical Animation. Lyrical Media is co-financing the project.
Key Producers: Gaming content creator Seán McLoughlin (Jacksepticeye) serves as a producer. He has a documented history playing the game on his channel and noted his priority is ensuring the adaptation respects the source material.
Development Status: There is currently no confirmed director or voice cast. The project is focusing on its visual framework and script development.
Launch Date and Availability
At this time, Sony has not provided an exact launch date or details on box office pricing.
Release Window: The timeline is officially TBA (To Be Announced). Because the movie is in early pre-production, it will likely be several years before it is completed.
Where to Watch?
The nature of the CinemaCon presentation signals a traditional theatrical release. Following its standard run in cinemas, the film will eventually shift to standard digital rental platforms and subscription streaming services.
