WhatsApp Liquid Glass UI update on iPhone showing translucent design and floating tab bar

WhatsApp’s new Liquid Glass update brings a fresh translucent design to iPhones. Here’s what’s new, which devices support it, and how to get the update.

The latest update to WhatsApp introduces a noticeable visual overhaul for iPhone users. Called the Liquid Glass design, this update focuses on a cleaner, modern interface with layered transparency inspired by iOS 26.

A New Glass-Like Interface Design

The Liquid Glass update replaces the traditional flat layout with a translucent and layered design. The interface now feels more dynamic, with elements appearing to float above the screen. This creates a subtle depth effect that improves the overall visual experience while keeping the app familiar.

Floating Tab Bar and Improved Navigation

One of the biggest visual changes is the floating tab bar. It now appears slightly raised with a frosted glass finish, allowing background content to blur softly. This adds depth and makes navigation clearer without distracting users from their chats.

Translucent Keyboard and Refined Controls

The typing experience has also been updated. The keyboard now appears semi-transparent and blends with the chat background. Buttons and menus feature a soft glass-like texture and smoother animations, making interactions feel more fluid and responsive.

Smart Adaptation Across Light and Dark Modes

The new design automatically adjusts between light and dark modes. Transparency levels and contrast shift accordingly, ensuring readability remains consistent while maintaining the modern look.

Rollout Status and Device Requirements

As of April 2026, the update is rolling out gradually for both WhatsApp Messenger and WhatsApp Business on iOS. It is being released in phases, so not all users may see it immediately.

To use this design, your iPhone must run iOS 26. Apple has limited compatibility to newer devices, starting from iPhone 11 and later models.

Compatible iPhone Models

The following iPhone models support iOS 26 and can receive the WhatsApp Liquid Glass update:

iPhone 17 series includes iPhone 17, iPhone 17 Pro, iPhone 17 Pro Max, iPhone 17e, and iPhone Air

iPhone 16 series includes iPhone 16, iPhone 16 Plus, iPhone 16 Pro, iPhone 16 Pro Max, and iPhone 16e

iPhone 15 series includes iPhone 15, iPhone 15 Plus, iPhone 15 Pro, and iPhone 15 Pro Max

iPhone 14 series includes iPhone 14, iPhone 14 Plus, iPhone 14 Pro, and iPhone 14 Pro Max

iPhone 13 series includes iPhone 13, iPhone 13 mini, iPhone 13 Pro, and iPhone 13 Pro Max

iPhone 12 series includes iPhone 12, iPhone 12 mini, iPhone 12 Pro, and iPhone 12 Pro Max

iPhone 11 series includes iPhone 11, iPhone 11 Pro, and iPhone 11 Pro Max

iPhone SE models include iPhone SE (2nd generation) and iPhone SE (3rd generation)

All these devices are supported because iOS 26 requires at least the A13 Bionic chip or newer hardware.

How to Enable or Adjust the New Design?

To enable the update, users need to install the latest version of WhatsApp from the App Store. Once available, the new interface activates automatically. Users who prefer a less transparent look can adjust settings through iPhone accessibility options.

Feature Limitations on Older Devices

While the Liquid Glass interface works across supported models, advanced features like Apple Intelligence are limited to newer devices such as iPhone 15 Pro and above. These features depend on more powerful chipsets and are not available on older iPhones.

Final Thoughts

The Liquid Glass update focuses on visual improvements rather than major feature changes. It refreshes WhatsApp’s look while keeping the experience simple and familiar for everyday use.
