WhatsApp is currently rolling out a username feature for iOS (and Android) that allows you to connect with others without sharing your phone number.
How to Check if You Have the Feature?
The rollout is gradual and currently available to a limited number of users. To check your status:
Open WhatsApp on your iPhone.
Tap on Settings in the bottom right corner.
Tap on your Profile (where your name and profile picture are).
Look for a section titled Username. If you see it, you can tap it to create your unique handle.
Username Guidelines
If the feature is active for your account, you must follow these specific rules when choosing a handle:
Length: Must be between 3 and 35 characters.
Characters: Can only include lowercase letters (a-z), numbers (0-9), periods (.), and underscores (_).
Requirements: Must include at least one letter.
Restrictions: Cannot start with "www." or end with a domain like ".com" or ".net".

Privacy: Once set, you can share your username instead of your phone number to start chats or calls.
Username Key: You may have the option to set a four-digit username key (PIN) that others must enter before they can message you for the first time, preventing unsolicited contact.
Meta Integration: You can choose to use your existing Instagram or Facebook username if it is available and you link your accounts through the Meta Accounts Centre.
Note: If you don't see the "Username" field yet, ensure your app is updated to the latest version via the App Store. The feature is expected to reach all users later in 2026.
