Samsung has officially flipped the switch. As of this morning, April 30, 2026, the long-awaited One UI 8.5 stable update has moved out of the beta phase and is hitting the first wave of consumer devices. For Samsung enthusiasts, this marks one of the most significant mid-cycle refreshes in the company’s history, focusing heavily on refined AI and cross-platform communication.

Here is everything you need to know about the current status, new features, and when your device might see the notification.

The Rollout Status: Who Gets It First?

The rollout began approximately four hours ago, originating in South Korea. Following Samsung's traditional deployment pattern, the update is expected to reach European and North American markets within the next 24 to 48 hours, with a wider release in India scheduled by May 4, 2026.

Priority Devices

Galaxy S25 Series: The S25, S25+, and S25 Ultra are the first to receive the stable build.

Galaxy S24 Series: Currently in the final "pre-release" verification; expected by mid-May.

Galaxy Z Fold6 and Flip6: Slated for a simultaneous release alongside the S24 series.

Top 5 Features in One UI 8.5

This update isn't just a security patch; it introduces several functional changes designed to make the Galaxy ecosystem more open and "smarter."

1. Universal Quick Share (AirDrop Compatibility)

In a massive win for users, Samsung has updated Quick Share to include limited compatibility with Apple devices. While not a full "AirDrop" clone, it allows for seamless high-speed transfers between a Galaxy S25 and recent iPhones using a shared local protocol—no more blurry WhatsApp videos.

2. Privacy-First Screenshots

One UI 8.5 now includes an Auto-Redact feature. When you take a screenshot of a banking app or a document containing your ID number, the system uses on-device AI to automatically blur the sensitive information before you hit "Send."

3. The "New" Bixby

Bixby has been rebuilt using a large language model (LLM). It now understands context much better. You can say, "Bixby, find that photo of the dog I took last Tuesday and send it to Mom," and it will execute the multi-step command without further input.

4. Partial Screen Recording

Finally, users can record a specific portion of their screen. Instead of showing your entire notification bar and dock, you can draw a box over a video or a specific app window to record only what matters.

5. Advanced Battery Health

Taking a page from the automotive industry, the new Battery Dashboard provides a "Health Percentage" (similar to the iPhone) and a detailed log of charge cycles to help users decide when it’s time for a professional battery replacement.

Expected Update Roadmap

Device Category Estimated Arrival

  • Flagship S-Series (S25) - Live Now.
  • Flagship S-Series (S24, S23) - Mid-May 2026.
  • Foldables (Fold5/6, Flip5/6) - Mid-May 2026.
  • Galaxy A-Series (A56, A36, A55) - Late May 2026.
  • Galaxy Tab S10 and S11 - Early June 2026.

How to Prepare Your Device?

Before you hit that download button, follow these three simple steps to ensure a smooth transition:

Back Up Your Data: Even though this is a stable release, always back up your photos and messages to Samsung Cloud or Google Drive.

Clear Space: The update is roughly 3.2GB. Ensure you have at least 6GB of free space for the installation process.

Check Battery: Ensure your phone is charged to at least 50% or plugged into a charger.

To check for the update manually, navigate to Settings > Software update > Download and install. If it hasn't arrived yet, stay patient—Samsung usually pushes these out in batches to ensure server stability.
