One UI 8.5 for the Samsung Galaxy S24 series is a major software update based on Android 16. While it officially debuted with the Galaxy S26 series in February 2026, it is currently rolling out to S24 users through a beta program, with a stable public release expected in late April or early May 2026.

Release Schedule and Status

Current Status: As of April 2026, the One UI 8.5 Beta is available for Galaxy S24, S24+, and S24 Ultra users in select regions, including South Korea, India, the UK, and the US.

Stable Rollout: Stable builds for older flagships like the S24 series are projected to begin their global rollout around May 4, 2026, following the initial South Korean launch on April 30.

How to Join? Eligible users can register for early access via the Samsung Members app.

Key Features and Improvements

One UI 8.5 focuses on deeper AI integration and a refined user interface:

Next-Gen Galaxy AI Features

Advanced Audio Eraser: Allows users to manually reduce specific background noises in apps like Instagram, Netflix, and YouTube.

AI-Powered Call Screening: A conversational agent that can answer calls, ask for the caller's identity, and provide a live transcript.

Creative Studio: A dedicated app for generating drawings, stickers, and wallpapers using AI prompts (primarily for S Pen-equipped S24 Ultra models).

Improved Photo Assist: Enables complex image editing through text prompts, such as merging objects from different photos.

Interface and Customisation

Redesigned Quick Panel: Features larger, fully customisable controls for better touch targeting.

Smart Lock Screen: Automatically adjusts wallpaper layouts so the clock and widgets do not cover faces or pets in your photos.

Bixby with Perplexity Integration: Redesigned as a more natural conversational agent that understands casual language and context.

Connectivity and Productivity

Cross-Platform Quick Share: Introduces "AirDrop" style sharing for easier file transfers with Apple devices.

Partial Screen Recording: Users can now select and record only a specific portion of the screen.

Storage Share: Access files across other Samsung phones, tablets, and PCs directly from the My Files app.

System Optimisations

The update includes a redesigned Battery settings screen for clearer usage tracking and a new Warranty and Care section in device settings to manage repairs and support. It also incorporates the April 2026 security patch, which addresses 47 vulnerabilities.

Final Thoughts

One UI 8.5 feels like a practical upgrade rather than a flashy one. With meaningful AI tools and usability improvements, it should make everyday tasks smoother for Galaxy S24 users once the stable version arrives.
