Halo Returns With a Modern Remake

Microsoft and Halo Studios have officially unveiled Halo: Campaign Evolved, a complete remake of the iconic Halo: Combat Evolved. Scheduled for release on July 28, 2026, the game aims to introduce Master Chief’s first adventure to a new generation of players while preserving the spirit of the original classic.

The announcement was one of the biggest highlights of the Xbox Games Showcase 2026, attracting attention from longtime Halo fans and newcomers alike.

Rebuilt Using Unreal Engine 5

Halo: Campaign Evolved has been rebuilt using Unreal Engine 5, delivering a major visual upgrade over previous versions of the game. Players can expect enhanced character models, improved environments, updated lighting, remastered audio, and modernized cutscenes.

According to Halo Studios, the goal is to maintain the original campaign experience while taking advantage of current-generation hardware capabilities.

New Story Missions Expand the Halo Universe

Unlike a traditional remaster, Halo: Campaign Evolved introduces new content to the campaign. The game includes three new prequel missions known as Operation: Meteorite, which provide additional background leading into the events of the original story.

Players will also encounter new enemy encounters, expanded weapon options, additional collectibles, and redesigned gameplay sections that add fresh experiences without changing the core narrative.

Co-op Features

The game focuses heavily on cooperative play:

  • 2-player split-screen co-op on consoles.
  • Up to 4-player online co-op.
  • Full cross-platform play.
  • Cross-progression support.

However, competitive PvP multiplayer is not included. Halo Studios has said the project is focused entirely on delivering a modernized campaign experience.

Cross-Platform Launch Marks a Major Milestone

For the first time in franchise history, a Halo title will launch on PlayStation. Halo: Campaign Evolved is coming to Xbox Series X|S, PC, and PlayStation 5 simultaneously.

The game also supports full cross-platform play and cross-progression, allowing players to continue their progress across supported platforms.
