Square Enix just shocked the gaming world by unveiling Final Fantasy 7 Revelation, the massive final chapter of the remake trilogy launching everywhere in Spring 2027.
Square Enix Unveils Final Fantasy VII Revelation
The wait is officially over for RPG fans worldwide. Square Enix has shocked the gaming community by announcing Final Fantasy VII Revelation, the highly anticipated third and final chapter in the Final Fantasy VII remake trilogy. Serving as the grand finale of the recent Summer Game Fest, the big reveal gave players their first look at the massive scope of this concluding chapter, which arrives right in time for the 30th anniversary of the original 1997 classic.
Release Date and Surprise Platforms
Gamers will not have to wait too long to experience the end of the journey. Square Enix confirmed a release window of Spring 2027.
In a massive shift for the franchise, Final Fantasy VII Revelation is breaking away from past PlayStation exclusivity windows. The game will launch simultaneously across multiple platforms. Players can dive in on day one via PlayStation 5, PC (Steam and Epic Games Store), Xbox Series X/S, and Nintendo's highly anticipated next-gen console, heavily rumored to be the Switch 2. This global, multi-platform launch ensures that fans across all countries can experience the climax together.
The Race Against Sephiroth and Meteor
The story of Revelation picks up immediately after the emotional and chaotic ending of Final Fantasy VII Rebirth. Cloud Strife and the surviving members of AVALANCHE are grieving a fallen ally while racing against time. Their ultimate destination is the Northern Crater.
Standing in their way is Sephiroth, who is closer than ever to achieving godhood. Armed with the devastating Black Materia, Sephiroth aims to merge alternate realities into a single timeline and summon Meteor to wipe out the planet. To fight back, the party takes to the skies on the iconic Highwind airship, exploring a seamless world without boundaries to build their strength and stop the impending apocalypse.

New Characters and Legendary Bosses
The active combat roster is expanding significantly for this final stand. Deft gunslinger Vincent Valentine and the cantankerous pilot Cid Highwind officially join the party as fully playable combatants. Vincent brings long-range firearm strikes and powerful beast transformations to the battlefield, while Cid utilizes fast, mid-range lance attacks and area-of-effect damage.
The game is also bringing back the ultimate endgame challenges from the original title. The trailer confirmed that the planet’s giant biological defenders, known as the Weapons—including Ruby Weapon, Emerald Weapon, and Ultimate Weapon—will awake. These colossal monsters will serve as massive, multi-stage superbosses that will test the skills of even the most experienced players.
The FITS System and Upgraded Combat
While Revelation keeps the beloved hybrid real-time and tactical combat from Rebirth, it introduces a game-changing new mechanic. The Function Integrated Tactical Suitwear (FITS) system allows players to change their characters' clothing to unlock entirely new movesets and stat boosts.
These suits evoke classic Final Fantasy job classes. For example, players can equip Tifa with a Black Mage outfit to focus on heavy offensive magic, or dress Cloud in Warrior attire to maximize aggressive, physical sword strikes. Combined with the returning ability to swap characters seamlessly mid-battle on the fly, this system offers a whole new layer of strategic customization.
Franchise Crossovers and Extra News
The hype does not stop with the main game. In a surprise collaboration between Capcom and Square Enix, it was revealed that Tifa Lockhart will cross over into the fighting game world. She will join the official roster of Street Fighter 6 as part of its upcoming Season 4 content, giving fans an extra way to play as the iconic martial artist ahead of the 2027 RPG release.
