WhatsApp’s native CarPlay app is here. The visual dashboard introduces dedicated tabs for Chats and Calls, allowing drivers to manage communications safely via voice while maintaining end-to-end encryption.
WhatsApp officially released its native Apple CarPlay app on April 8, 2026. This update, part of WhatsApp for iOS version 26.13.74, introduces a visual dashboard for car infotainment systems, moving beyond previous Siri-only voice interactions.
How to Download and Install?
There is no separate app to download for CarPlay; it is built directly into the standard WhatsApp for iOS application.
- Download Link: You can download or update the app from the Apple App Store.
- Installation: Once your iPhone is updated to version 26.13.74 or later, the WhatsApp icon will automatically appear on your car's CarPlay dashboard when you connect your phone.
Key Features of the Native App
The new interface is structured into three main tabs to minimize driver distraction:
Chats Tab: Displays a list of recent conversations (from roughly the last 20–25 days). While you can see who has messaged you (indicated by a blue dot for unreads), you cannot open a chat to read full message histories while driving.
Calls Tab: Provides a chronological history of incoming, outgoing, and missed WhatsApp calls, allowing you to return missed calls with a single tap.
Favorites Tab: Syncs your "Favorite" contacts from your iPhone for quick, one-tap access to call or message the people you contact most often.
Safety and Messaging
Voice-Only Messaging: To ensure safety, there is no on-screen keyboard. All outgoing messages must be sent via voice dictation using the built-in "New Message" option or Siri.
Privacy: All communications on the CarPlay interface remain protected by WhatsApp’s end-to-end encryption.
Media Restrictions: Photos, videos, and WhatsApp Status updates are hidden from the CarPlay interface to prevent driver distraction.

The WhatsApp app will work in any car that supports Apple CarPlay. There are two ways to have a compatible vehicle:
Factory-Supported Car Models
Most major manufacturers have included CarPlay support in models from 2016–2017 onwards. Notable compatible brands include:
