Toyota’s new electric sedan, the bZ7, has made an early impact in China. Within the first hour of launch, the company recorded over 3,000 orders, showing strong initial demand in the world’s largest EV market.

Design and Styling


The Toyota bZ7 follows a modern fastback sedan design with a long body and clean lines. It features a full-width LED light setup at the front and a sleek, aerodynamic profile. The car is roughly 5.1 meters long, placing it in the large sedan segment. 


Inside, the cabin focuses on a digital experience, with a large central display and a minimalist layout designed around connected features.


Features and Technology


One of the key highlights is its tech package. The bZ7 comes with a Huawei-based HarmonyOS cockpit, along with smart connectivity features and integration with local ecosystems like Xiaomi. 


It also includes LiDAR-based driver assistance, supporting advanced driving functions on highways.

Battery, Performance and Range


The sedan is offered with 71 kWh and 88 kWh battery options. Depending on the variant, it can deliver a range of up to around 700 km (CLTC). 


Power comes from a Huawei-developed electric motor producing around 200 kW (approx. 270 hp), with a top speed close to 180 km/h. 


Fast charging is another focus, with the ability to add significant range in a short time.


Price and Availability


The Toyota bZ7 is priced between 147,800 and 199,800 yuan (around $21,000 to $29,000) depending on the variant. 


It is currently limited to the Chinese market, with no official confirmation about a global launch yet.


Launch Impact


The strong first-hour booking numbers suggest that Toyota’s approach—combining competitive pricing with locally developed technology—is gaining attention. The bZ7 marks a clear step in Toyota’s EV strategy, especially in China’s fast-moving electric car segment.
